Balancing Brains: from theory to practical!

From a week in Devon at the Schumacher College spent theorising about the balanced use of the brain’s left and right hemispheres with the learned, wise, and witty neuroscientist, Dr Iain McGilchrist, to a week in France at BrainMoove with the brilliantly talented and functional neurology specialist, Dr Raphaël Royer, stimulating very specific regions of my son’s right cerebrum.

Iain’s course, with Earth activist, Satish Kumar, shone a light on how important the balance of left and right hemispheres is and what a ‘balanced brain’-based society might be like; whilst, around the world, thousands of practitioners of the various neuroplasticity therapies, like Raphael, are working with individuals, balancing brains and changing lives every day.

Not only do we need a society where more connecting, caring and creative pursuits are encouraged and valued (in preference to ‘more-more-more’, self-serving pursuits), but we also need well-functioning brains to enjoy the wonderful richness of the human experience.

Note:
My fantastic son is missing a large portion of his brain, due to a brain tumour. Mainly thanks to neuroplasticity therapies a a part of his recovery, he continues to exceed expectations and (way beyond mastering talking and other physical skills) he is becoming a talented artist and sculptor, and keen arborist, and continues to gain more social and functional skills than we could ever have imagined :-)) I’m so grateful for all my learnings and the blessings for lives which come from translating the neuroscience into the practical. Of course, I’m super super-proud of my son and all he achieved during his week at BrainMoove :-))
